  • Microsoft Edge has made the transition to a four-week upgrade cycle. For major versions, we’ve switched to a four-week schedule. More information may be found here.
  • A new extended stable option is now available. Our managed Enterprise clients may now choose from a new Extended Stable option. The Extended Stable option will update every 8 weeks and will remain on even-numbered versions. There will be a security update every two weeks. Here’s some more information.
  • The default behavior of opening MHTML files has been improved. Unless the MHTML file was saved from Microsoft Edge, MHTML files will continue to open in IE mode if IE mode is enabled (using the Save As or Save Page As options in Microsoft Edge). If you saved the file in Microsoft Edge, it will now open in that program. This update will resolve a rendering problem that occurred while opening an MHTML file saved using Microsoft Edge in IE mode.
  • Secure contexts should be used for private network requests. Pages on the internet must be served via HTTPS in order to access resources on local (intranet) networks. This shift is taking place in the Chromium project, which is the foundation for Microsoft Edge. Go to the Chrome Platform Status entry for additional information. InsecurePrivateNetworkRequestAllowed and InsecurePrivateNetworkRequestAllowedForUrls are two compatibility rules that may be used to enable situations that need compatibility with non-secure sites.
  • Downloads with mixed material should be avoided. Secure pages will only download files from other secure sites, and non-secure (non-HTTPS) pages will be banned if downloaded from a secure page. This shift is taking place in the Chromium project, which is the foundation for Microsoft Edge. Go to the Google security blog post for additional details.
  • For on-premises accounts, enable implicit sign-in. Only on-premises accounts will be enabled for implicit sign-in if the OnlyOnPremisesImplicitSigninEnabled policy is activated. Microsoft Edge will not try to sign in to MSA or AAD accounts implicitly. Upgrades from on-premises to AAD accounts will also be discontinued.
  • A new accessibility options page has been added. We’ve consolidated accessibility-related options into a single page. The new edge:/settings/accessibility page may be found in the main settings menu. Here you may change the size of the web page, display a high-visibility outline around the focus area, and other options to enhance your online surfing experience. In future versions of Microsoft Edge, we’ll continue to add additional options here.
